I've had the same error from BACKUP before as I remember when you get
the error message "CONTAINS CONTINUED FILE - CANNOT APPEND" you need to
include the /REWIND switch after the name of the save set on the tape.

By the way your saying about flies and birds translates into a
delightfully off-color pun in German.
