Our library director told me that the cost of just the software from the vendors who will be installing this on some kind of Dec hardware (rumored to be 8500) would be near $100,000. This seems a bit on the steep side (I'm not exactly sure what all is included but some kind of online card catalog, some way to catalog books and a circulation system would seem to be necessary). What systems, facilities and costs are any of you aware of which run on Dec hardware? Are there any Colleges or Universities which have shared ideas and resources to design an 'acedemically priced' system? Are any systems which we should avoid? I will sumarize to the net if you e-mail to me.
