There was a very good spelling checker in (I believe) the fall 85 DECUS
VAX SIG tape. It was submitted by VASSAR College. The source and dictionaries
are included. Source is in Pascal using SMG. It allows for adding personal
dictionary entries on the fly. It also has a guessing feature which tries
to guess the correct spelling of a mis-spelled word (I like this feature
and often make it guess just to see how smart it is, it is pretty smart!)
