The subnet only provides us with reports of attempts which were delayed by temporary resources shortages within the ARPANET. BBN believes that all connection attempts would return a destination host dead (1822 type 6 subtype 9). These attempts are being made to address 10.3.0.52 which is currently unoccupied but used to be USC-ISIB. BBN estimates that there are between 200,000 and 2,000,000 attempts per 24 hour period. BBN is not able to determine the nature of the attempts or the originating source(s) since the origin is behind gateways. The following is a list of the host/gateways that originated or forwarded traffic destined for 10.3.0.52. Any information on what is causing this traffic would be appreciated. It is a likely candidate for contributing to ARPANET congestion.
