We use NFS to share news among 28 Suns, and it works just fine. Here's what I did: 1) Define HIDDENNET to be the uuname of the news machine, and MYDOMAIN to be the news machine's domain. 2) In the news machine's "sys" file, use the name defined in HIDDENNET. In my experience, "ME" doesn't work. 3) Make sure that all the clients mount LIBDIR and SPOOLDIR. For example, at my site we used: #define HIDDENNET "wiley" #define MYDOMAIN ".UUCP" and sys looks like: wiley:comp,sci,news,rec,soc,talk,misc,net,mod,world,na,usa,ca,la,trw,local,to.wiley:: trwrb:comp,sci,news,rec,soc,talk,misc,net,mod,world,na,usa,ca,la,trw,to.trwrb:F:/usr/spool/batch/trwrb I can post articles from any machine and it looks like they came from wiley, and I can read news from any machine. Note that on our network, /usr/spool/batch is also mounted NFS, and wiley periodically runs sendbatch, because it's the only machine with a uucp connection. One thing to watch out for: our news is patched up to patchlevel 4. We tried running for a while at patchlevel 1 and it didn't work correctly. -David -- --------------------------------------- David Hull TRW Inc. Redondo Beach, CA ...!{cit-vax,trwrb}!wiley!david
