We need to buy a pair of fiber-based Ethernet bridges, to connect two
buildings about 1.5-2 cable-kilometers apart.  For other reasons, we're
having a lot of 62.5 micron fiber put into the ground between the two
locations; we'd really like to use it, rather than some other size.

The DEC LANBridge-100 would be perfect, except that it wants 100 micron
fiber.  We'll be close to the outer limits of their 2 km distance spec (which
in turn is governed by a total fiber loss budget of about 13dB), so we're
concerned about the fiber size mismatch -- as far as I know (which isn't
very far, when it comes to fiber), you lose a lot trying to send into a
smaller-diameter fiber than the transmitter really expects.

So -- I'd like some info on (a) other Ethernet bridge vendors; (b) any sort
of "generic" fiber repeater/amplifier; (c) low-loss coupling between the
100 microns and the 62.5 microns.  Please reply by mail.
