Message-ID: <735@oliveb.UUCP> Date: Tue, 31-Mar-87 13:52:51 EST Article-I.D.: oliveb.735 Posted: Tue Mar 31 13:52:51 1987 Date-Received: Fri, 3-Apr-87 00:49:18 EST Organization: Olivetti ATC; Cupertino, Ca Lines: 14 Keywords: ping packet loss ethernet We have an ethernet connecting 14 computers all located in the same room. I was playing arround with "ping" (4.3BSD Unix on a Vax750) and noticed that packets were lost when talking to the other systems. If I run: ping othersys 1500 100 It reports that ~7% of the packets were lost. While this doesn't seem to be causing any problems I am concerned about potential degredation. Is this an inevitable loss based on timeing or something? Should I investigate my cabling and tranceivers for problems? Jerry Aguirre Systems Administration Olivetti ATC
