Actually, the second is NOT accepatable according to the information sent by the copyright office. They make a big deal about either spelling it out: "copyright" or placing the letter "C" with a FULL circle around it on the work to be copyrighted. the "c" in parenthases is explicitly stated as being unacceptable.
