The "standard" Motorola chip that was out there when the 68020 came out was the 68451 MMU. It was a real dog if you were trying to implement something like UNIX. The newer chip, the 68851 sounds a lot better and I suspect that the 68030 MMU will look a lot like that it. So, the current standard MMU for the 68020 is probably the 68851 and the reason people didn't use it in their workstations was that it wasn't available at that time.
