The patch should allow 256KXL owners to run graphically oriented software such as Xlent's Typesetter program and other "Desktop Publishing" applications without having to add the Newell-suggested manual switch "fix". In fact, I would expect it to run all commercial 130XE software exactly the same as a 130XE would, while allowing the extra 128K of memory to be used for a RAMdisk. The patch requires cutting two foils and wiring up some unused sections of ICs already on the board, but it DOES NOT require adding any parts other than new wires. My guess is that it should take at most an hour or two to make the modification, given step-by-step instructions. If anybody is interested in details when this patch has been fully tested, please let me know where I can mail info to you. -John Sangster John H.
