Any of the WordStar versions will handle file sizes limited by disk space only. (WordStar 4.0 includes some nifty program editing features even, like variable tab widths and autoindent.) Here's a little known tip: There are actually two WordStar temporary files. Your original file is only read from, and becomes the .BAK file. As you move forward through the file buffer spills become a temporary file that grows as you cursor forward -- and this file becomes the new file. If you make changes early in your file, move forward, then move backward, another temporary file is created (called EDBACKUP.$$$ in ws 3.3). So the nominal space required on your disk for editing a file with WordStar is free space equal to or greater than twice the size of your original file. However, if you don't back up through the file, the BACKUP temp file isn't needed, and you can edit a large file using only as much free space as the size of your original file. -- Mojo mojo@micropro.UUCP ...
