It IS ok to use 4.0/5.4 on a Mac+ and even a 512 Mac. The are 2 reasons why Apple is discouraging it: 1. System 4.1 will be out soon, so people will have to upgrade very soon anyway. Why upgrade twice? Also, people with only floppies would have to upgrade ALL their floppies twice. So why bother. 2. 4.0/5.4 only has stuff needed for a Mac SE and AppleShare. If you don't have either of these, then you will not benifit much. I don't say "at all", I just say not much. I hope this clears everything up.
