re:  "I just bought a surplus Hewlitt Packard 2627A graphics terminal
      without a communications cable and I would like someone to please tell
      me how it should be wired, i.e.  what signals are on what pins.  The
      port 1 connector has 50 (?)  pins like those on multiline telephones.

Although the HP 2627A is no longer in production (but is available as a
remarketed product), the manuals are still in print, and are:

I was surprised at the relatively high price of the "Users" manual until
I checked our library copy.  It is printed in color, which is costly. 

The datacomm pinouts are as follows.  This also describes the HP 13222N U.S.
modem cable, if you substitute a 25-pin male DB25P connector for "Port 2".
Only those lines marked with an asterisk (*) are generally needed for use
with port selectors or retail modems.
