On a Vax 11-750 running Ultrix 1.2, I am unable to get 8 bit output from a program (which will be output to a graphics terminal) and can't figure it out, no matter what stty settings I try. The terminal in question is connected to the Ultrix machine via decnet - decserver 100. On the same machine, we are having problems getting nroff (output to an LA100f with Greek character ROM) to produce the square root sign. It outputs `\' where the root sign should be, but outputs the root-en correctly (bar over argument). Is there some science to this? I have gotten the other characters to work fine, but this one won't, although the same sequence of octal codes works fine for a c program. Even if I try to print one character (versus two) for the root sign - no luck. I guess there is one more question, but I don't expect an answer. Unix system V is nice, but the version on the 3B2 has no `man' (not to mention csh). I have the man files for 4.2BSD, and would like to have man on the 3B2. Is there a standard system V manual, in software, that matches the command set on the 3B2 (v.2.1)? I have access to HP-UX, but am not sure how much is system V info. Also, is there a reference to the difference between system variable names for BSD on the Vax, and for Sys. V on the AT&T? Thanks for any help, Mike Finegan
