You might try getting in touch with the manufacturer of the tape controller.
Many controller manufacturers will provide generic UNIX drivers for their
hardware as an incentive to purchase their boards.  Even if they don't have
one they can provide, they may be able to get you in touch with one of their
customers that have what you need.
