As an X novice at that time I was not aware of the ramifications of grabbing events from the root window. It has served me well enough, though. I might go over to Ed Moy's xinit with startup file ~/.xinit (one less process). In any case I have no further intention of doing anything more with xtools. Anybody is welcome to trash it or improve it as they wish. Ken
