Portia Bjorndahl called me on the phone today and asked me to submit
a message to INFO-VAX for her.

The mail system on Portia's machine has gone down and will be down
for at least a few more days.  She has received many requests for
SWING and has sent the source to several people.  However, she
will not be sending her version to anyone else since Mike Bednarek
recently has made a new and improved version available on the net.

She reiterates the fact pointed out by others on the net that 
the smg portion of the vms 4.4 library is incomplete on some
machines; this is a common problem with implementing SWING that has
been remedied in Mike Bednarek's SWING distribution.

My note :
  I have received about 25-30 large fragments of Portia's SWING message
over the last week; many of the frags came through wiscvm.  I assume
the repetition stems from problems in handling the large size of her 
message?
  Thanks to Mike Bednarek for his easy-to-handle source mailing.
The only problem I have run into with his version was in the subroutine
HARDCOPY : there is a problem when len.ge.12 since one statement
tries to concatenate dashes(len+1:12) to another substring ... ah, those
subscripts again  :^)
