  Our field service is *very* sharp and has never heard of ra81's NOT spinning
up.  Ours always do and he knows of nothing special about them.

  It does take about 7 minutes for the hsc50 to boot and another few minutes
for vms to boot far enough where it needs to mount drives.  During this time,
the lights are off ... but when needed they come on.
