The following appears in the April edition of SPIN, reprinted without permission. "Husker Du refused their royalty check from _A Diamond Hidden in the Mouth of a Corpse_, a compilation album, saying they'd rather the money go to AIDS research. They then challenged the other artists on the album to do the same. So far William Burroughs, Laurie Anderson(*), Keith Haring(*), David Johansen, Diamonda Galas, Coil, Philip Glass(*), Merideth Monk(*), and Allen Ginsberg(*) have all taken the challenge." * -- These artists do not appear on _A Diamond..._ but do appear on other Dial-A-Poet compilation albums. Even though the money involved probably isn't extraordinary, I thought is was a significant gesture nontheless. Besides, if the trend continues maybe the Dial-A-Poet organization could be considered a charitable organization. Just think, tax deductions for buying vinyl... :-) BTW - the album in question _A Diamond..._ also happens to be a great compilation. I'll try to post a review in the near future. I'd also like to hear other folks opinions of any Dial-A-Poet compilations; so far I've liked _A Diamond..._ best but I'm still open to suggestions of others to try. -jj "I want to be filthy and anonynmous" -- John Giorno (Dial-A-Poet honcho) --------- UUCP: {ihnp4!whuxcc | seismo!umcp-cs}!jhunix!ecf_ujaj ARPA: jones@hopkins.arpa BITNET: L64A0110@jhuvm
