See 1.4, Applicability: "GOSIP is to be used by all Federal Government agencies when procuring ADP systems or services and communication systems or services. It is mandatory for all new network implementations and should be carefully considered for retrofits." See also 1.2, Purpose: "This specification is _the_ standard reference for all Federal Government agencies to use when procuring ADP systems or services and communication systems or services." See, for that matter, 1.1, Background: "GOSIP addresses the need fo the Federal Government to move immediately to multi vendor [sic] interconnectivity...." Perhaps you saw an earlier draft. I don't have a chip on my shoulder, I have a clear and present danger in my sights. If this be paranoia, let's make the most of it. cheers, map P.S. Just so nobody thinks I'm quoting unfairly, 1.4 does offer: "For a period of two years, agencies are permitted to procure alternative interoperable protocols, but they must provide a mechanism for those protocols to interoperate with OSI protocols as well." Perhaps you construe this as keeping the TCP/IP Suite; I can't. -------
