I am currently using vnews, but I have seen vn, and I like its browsing-style features. However, there is a major (for me) feature that vn lacks! (and that vnews has) It is not well documented in the man page, but if you put a '%s' at the end of your NEWSBOX variable (which is set for the root directory for all saved articles), you get a one-level subdirectory structure, with one directory per newsgroup with saved articles. eg. NEWSBOX=$HOME/netnews/%s implies that the following directory and file will be created (given the saving of an article named foo in the newsgroup news.misc): $HOME/netnews/news.misc/foo It is simply great for a fairly simple hunk of shell code to go through those directories and print, save, (or whatever) the files as you wish in an automated fashion. I can supply the source (for my personal setup) for those really interested (if any :-)). SOOOOOOOOOO, the big question: HOW CAN WE GET THIS KIND OF FEATURE INTO VN (without unsupported patches)? WILL THIS POSTING REACH THE RIGHT PERSON? -- Rich Straka ihnp4!ihlpf!straka
