Right. > There is a clear difference (to me anyway) between doing outside reading to gain perspective on some material and "digging" to find answers. So there is a gray area here. It depends on the students motivation for doing the outside reading. But asking students not to use outside references on an assignment is encouraging them to develop certain thought processes on their own and learn something.
