For instance, e with an acute, etc. This is a real problem when using Emacses, and I would very much like to know if someone has found a satisfactory way of modifying Gnu Emacs. At first sight, this needs: - a table controlling which 8 bit characters have a graphic representation for a given language, - binding these to self-insert, - displaying them in eight bit, rather than quoted as nnn, - preserving -character to bind to M-character. This modification is most probably not all trivial, but I think it would greatly augment the audience of Emacs in non English speaking contries.
