The short courses are under the same auspices, except as indicated. Conference: The conference is a forum for discussion of the latest research on computer-aided text processing. Keynote speakers include John Collins (Bitstream Inc.); Richard Furuta(Univ. of Maryland); Shiu Chang Loh (Chinese University, Hong Cong); Pierre MacKay( Univ. of Washington); Marc Nanard (CRIM, Montpelier); Luis Trabb-Pardo (Imagen Corp.); Xuan Wang(Peking University). SHORT COURSES. The following one-day short courses are scheduled for October 19: A. Issues in Generalized Text Processing( Furuta, Loh, MacKay, Nanard) B. TeX for Scientific Documentation ( Bart Childs, Texas A&M Univ.) C. An Introduction to SGML ( W.W. Davis, Jr., Internal Revenue Service) D. Issues in Digital Typography (Richard Rubinstein, Digital Equipment Corp.) E. Introduction to PostScript(Yvonne Perry, Adobe Systems) F. Document Databases and Technical Publishing( Geoffrey James, Honeywell Information Systems) under the auspices of the University of Massachusetts/Boston and UCLA extension programs. To be confirmed. CALL FOR PAPERS. Contributed papers are solicited. Authers should submit a one page typeset or typewritten abstract (500 words maximum) and up to two additional pages of figures (no text). This must state clearly the purpose of the work, the specific original results that have been obtained, and the significance of these results. Only works not previously submitted for publication will be considered. The absolute deadline for receipt is June 30, 1987. Manuscripts should be sent to one of the following: Prof. John Miller, School of Mathematics, Trinity College, Dublin 2, Ireland. Prof. Robert Morris, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, The University of Massachusetts at Boston, Boston, MA 02125. The program committee will meet shortly after the deadline and notify authors by July 15, 1987. Authors will be allocated 20 minutes at the conference. The final version of the paper is to be submitted in camer-ready cop[y at the conference and will be refereed again before being accepted for publication in the conference proceedings.
