I now have Minix pretty-much-running on a 4.77Mhz clone that started life as a Tandy 1200, and which now has 640k, an Adaptec 2002 hard disk controller, and a Rodime 20meg full-height drive (model 242, I think?). One 360k floppy. Status is that the Hercules-compatible monochrome card behaves fine, but I'm having hard disk trouble. Minix would only mkfs on the number 1 partition, and wouldn't successfully mkfs a partition bigger than about 5meg. I am definitely seeing write errors, most of which get recovered from fairly well. In addition, using FDISK followed by the DISKFIX utility provided with Minix DID NOT convert the partitions to non-dos. I ended up using the Ontrak Disk Manager which I had lying around to create 4 5meg partitons, the first of which is Minix' /usr, the fourth of which is PC-Dos 3.2 bootable, and the middle two of which are waiting for fixes to Minix so I can mkfs them... I tried both a Tulin 30meg 1/2 height and the Rodime on a WD1002 controller with no luck at all. The mkfs always died with a panic about the wini not resetting. VERY frustrating. -- Bdale Garbee, N3EUA phone: 303/593-9828 h, 303/590-2868 w uucp: {bellcore,crash,hp-lsd,hpcsma,ncc,pitt,usafa,vixie}!winfree!bdale fido: sysop of 128/19 packet: n3eua @ k0hoa, Colorado Springs
