Message-ID: <3066@sdcsvax.UCSD.EDU> Date: Mon, 27-Apr-87 15:02:00 EDT Article-I.D.: sdcsvax.3066 Posted: Mon Apr 27 15:02:00 1987 Date-Received: Fri, 1-May-87 03:53:09 EDT Lines: 29 Approved: mod-os@sdcsvax.uucp So what's the story on Tron from Japan. The latest issue of IEEE Micro had several articles discribing Tron. Its a layerd operating system that is being proposed as a standard for everything from Microprocessor instruction sets, real time industrial kernel, advanced applications programming environment with a kinda object oriented / DBMS file system, to Man - Machine Interface. It uses 16bit characters to support Japanese and Chinese languages. Several Japanese chip manufacturers are at least experimenting with support. My question is: How real is this? What impact will it have on the real world of computers? Is this some real potential compitition to Unix and MS-DOS? Is anyone in the US considering it? Bob Berger Datacube Inc.
