Use the command "$ MCR NCP SHOW KNOWN NODES". > While speaking of SHOW NETWORK, the SHOW NETWORK on our system lists > nodes with empty node names. What does this mean? It means that somehow your machine is aware of the existence of these nodes, but hasn't been supplied with the names associated with them. > One other question: where is the REAL (technical, nitty-gritty) > documentation on DECnet so I can stop bothering people with questions? What you're looking for is Volume 6 of the VMS documentation set (NOT the uVMS doc set), entitled "NETWORKING" and including the documents "Networking Manual", "DTS/DTR", and, most relevent to your questions, "Network Control Program".
