I posted this about 6 months ago but I thought I'd post it again
since the current version of VMS C is still 2.2.

There is a bug in the optimizer in VMS C version 2.2 that causes
strange access violations. Compiling the identical code either
in VMS C version 2.1 with optimization or VMS C version 2.2 without
optimization results in correct (or at least runnable) code.
I have submitted an SPR on this.
