The HEADERFULL message can occur if your disk is fragmented, and is not a bug in VMS, per se. I expect people will get HEADERFULL from now until the end of time, if they don't restructure their disks regularly. I don't believe the HEADERFULL message is related to the problem causing index file corruption on clusters. True, restructuring the disk is the way to avoid both problems. However, it was my understanding that the cluster sites were getting more serious messages that indicated that the disk structure was corrupted. (This problem surfaced in VMS V4.5. The rumor is that the underlying bug has been with us all along, but that a change in the file system in V4.5 uncovered it.) A patched image for VMS V4.5 that reputedly fixes the problem is now available from Colorado Springs CSC. It's on the way to me via mail. When I get it I'll broadcast the patch ID so you can ask for it by name. I imagine V4.6 will be released with the patched image. (By the way, the guy I talked to said he could only send the patch to me on a floppy or TU58. He was not authorized to send magtape because it's so expensive to ship. I hope _someone_ is authorized . . . I can take TU58 because I've got 11/750s, but not everyone is lucky :-) Ed
