We are interested in both turn-key black-box schemes and software packages which might allow small UNIX machines currently on our Ethernet to perform this function. The additional ability to support multi X.25 ports both for backup paths and sub-addressed hosts would be a help. CSNET distributes under license software which provides a TCP/IP over X.25 interface. The software, known as XNI, runs under UNIX on a vax and currently works with an Interactive Systems Incard X.25 device. Work is under way to make the software work with ACC X.25 devices. The software supports TCP/IP over the public data network and enables the host to act as an IP gateway between other hosts on the PDN and whatever is behind the host. In addition to the TCP/IP support, XNI implements PAD functionality. It can be used as a remote terminal to connect to another host on the PDN or to act as a tty port on the gateway host. To reach other machines behind the gateway from the PDN, one could either telnet from the shell or have rlogin be your shell. More info is available from cic@sh.cs.net Leo Lanzillo leo@sh.cs.net
