Code like this is a good tutorial for the beginning programmer, eases program maintenance manyfold, is a joy to behold, and is the mark of a true professional. You just moved Knuth up a few notches closer to the top of my hero list, and got yourself a spot, as well. I sure hope that _lots_ of programmers see and follow your example. Well done!
