Seriously, the A2000 was originally designed as an A1000 with the 256K memory expansion built in and room for memory expansion on the expansion bus. The presense of the 1040ST made it bit silly to have a "high-end" machine with only 512K. Rather than redo most of the main board to cram in the extra memory, the Germans elected to make a simple/cheap memory card to plug into the "MMU" connector.
