I'm running VENIX 2.0 (SysV.2) and the  STTY(1) man page of my documentation
says the following about "sane":

	sane		resets all options to some reasonable values.
			Specifically, it sets the options to: brkint,
			ignpar, istrip, icrnl, ixon, opost, onclr,
			cread, clocal, isig, icanon, echo, echoe, echok.
