Uhh, excuse me?  "Dec's UNIX 'vms'"?  Uhh, sorry ace, but VMS is not UNIX.
VMS is a proprietary OS written by DEC for Vaxen in bliss, I believe.  I
think you are referring to Ultrix.  

Also, you don't know your machine very well.  It's not 25% faster than a 
garden variety Vax 780, it's about 1000% faster (Powernode == 10 mips over
2 processors, I think).
