This tool, called "flex", is about 99% compatible with lex. Its main advantages are that it runs much faster, generates smaller tables and faster scanners, and has several useful extensions (case-insensitive scanners, greater control over the degree of table compression, and a mechanism for specifying multiple, independent scanners). I will be on vacation from late April until late May. I am hoping to get the beta-test copies distributed before I leave but naturally will be unable to provide assistance if problems are encountered until my return. If you are interested in being a beta-tester, send a signed letter via U.S. mail stating: 1. the use(s) to which you will put flex, along with the type of machine and operating system you'll be running it under; 2. you understand that the beta-test software is not to be redistributed (though you may freely distribute code generated using the software); 3. you will provide feedback on difficulties bringing up or using the software; 4. you understand that the software is offered as-is (from a liability view-point); Send via network mail an address which I can use to mail the code (~150Kbytes) to you.
