In my case only wtmp was corrupted. utmp was fine. As a further potential clue. We don't have any VMS VAXen connected to mine, but there is a DEC-20 that several people SET HOST from (DEC-20 --> VAX). I'll try to arrange a test where several people SET HOST from the DEC-20 to the VAX simultaneously and see if that causes wtmp to become corrupted again. Keep those hints coming in!
