I always thought that a trackball would be much nicer than a mouse, but when I finally got to try one out this week, I discovered a basic problem with using one with X Windows. It is very difficult to hold down a button and move the ball at the same time. Since X seems to be mostly bound to "click and drag", this makes the trackball untenable, at least for a spaz like me. Other trackballs may have their buttons positioned to make this easier, but it seems like a fundamental problem since you basically need to push the buttons and move the ball with the same part of your anatomy (doesn't that conjure up some amusing images?). -- Chan Benson Hewlett Packard Company Fort Collins, CO {ihnp4 | hplabs}!hpfcla!chan
