We've used wi but haven't checked for time-of-day losses.
We have, however, found other problems with wi.  Conditions
that we've been unable to define so far cause wi to hang
grpahics processors and leave porcesses described as <exiting>
by the ps command output which can't be killed with Unix signals.
Usually this means you have to reboot.  Comments?
