We got our area number changed with only a minor amount of trouble (although I never did find out what exactly the RSX folks did.) The one sticky point I haven't seen mentioned yet turned out to be with our VMS systems... The ones in the VAXcluster... I had forgotten that you must keep SCSSYSTEMID = 1024 * area + number if you want to make DECnet happy. Changing this, of course, means you get to reboot your entire VAXcluster. Sigh.
