If you don't already have it, buy VAX-11/RSX from Digital. This provides the code necessary to run RSX code on the VAX and includes most of the RSX utilities. BRU is part of this package. You need to use BRU to read its own tapes; Backup and BRU write tapes in different formats and never the twain shall meet... One hint: DO NOT use BRU from an account with LOG_IO privilege enabled. A colleague did this to his/her great chagrin: BRU quite happily initialized and wrote ALL OVER his system disk! Bye, bye VMS... I've have best results with BRU by giving it a scratch pack to write on and telling it to go ahead an init the pack.
