Not that wierd (GE-645). The point is that there were other operating systems (e.g. DTSS, early UN*X) that would run on the same processor without such overhead. Multics was developed in a research environment where burning up hardware wasn't an issue. [DTSS? I'd like to hear more about that. -DL]
