The ARPAfolks calculated back in the late sixties that it would be cheaper to send a pagefull of text via the ARPANET than as a first-class letter. On the other hand, for bulk data larger than a megabit, the cheapest way was an airmailed magtape. Maybe one of the original Buzzards might certify and maybe update my recollections. Dave
