Geof, suggest you use 2400 feet for a standard mag tape.  At about 40 Mbytes
per tape or 320 E 6 bits instead of 129.6 E 6 bits.  Gives you roughly
a factor of 3 better thru put.

Last time I checked a station wagon cost about a fouth the cost of a
butterfly gateway.

Or about four months of 56 kbit/s cross country line from ATT.
