The empty newsgroups that I know of are: mod.computers.macintosh - dead newsgroup, replaced with mod.mac mod.mac - gatewayed from INFO-MAC@SUMEX-AIM.ARPA mod.risks - gatewayed from RISKS@SRI-KL.ARPA If you are not getting mod.mac or mod.risks, check the "sys" files of your netnews neighbors; these newsgroups are active, and are sent with a Distribution header that reads "world".
