I've just read an article in IEEE Computer magazine dated 1980 about error-code and self-checking circuits. The article said that the application of error-coding techniques to improve reliability of computer had been very limited. It also talked about "total self-checking" circuits. Anybody in the net know more recent articles or books about these "total self-checking" circuits?
