Enough value that people pay for them. Last I heard, AIM Technology was still in business (although changes can happen fast, I know), with Unix(R) benchmarks as one of their principal products. Funny, maybe if you spend enough time & money making a really good benchmark, you don't feel like giving it away. (rms notwithstanding) Also, I've heard several manufacturers quote the NCR multi-user benchmark. I believe it was posted last year.
