Summary: What are your experiences

I'm doing some research on text database systems (both productivity tools
and archiving systems).  I'm looking into primarily commercial system, not
acedemia-based super powerful systems (e.g. hypertext).  If you have
had any experiences with such systems on PCs, minis, etc. please let know
what you thought.
