This comes from the fact that the printer can generate messages at any time. Another thing you need to consider are what to do when the printer is turned off or is disconnected. Having written a symbiont to deal with a Laserwriter plus the accounting problem is the most difficult part. The one thing I did like about doing it was operator requests generated by the symbiont when the laserwriter encounters a printer problem. The operators hate me...:-) Ray
