At Spartacus Computers we strongly recommend it to all newcomers to networking. Second - after reading Tannenbaum - get the DDN protocol handbook (actually a three volume handbook, about 8 inches thick). It will give you all the gory details of the Arpa Net, TCP, IP, etc, etc. Finally - Join the TCP/IP discussion list on the arpanet. Even if you have nothing to say, there is plenty to hear.
