To this day on the few occasions I do use basic I use Metacomco's. Something about the Microsoft version bothers me. Like working at 300 baud. Given the fact that they had very little time to do what they did I think their efforts at Amiga software have succeded. I did try the shell for a bit, and I found that it did not deal well with some programs. Unfortunantly I cannot remember what since it was so long ago. I think it might have been one of the various Emacses that are floating around.
